For soul care and spiritual community
A Place to Connect
Blacksburg United Methodist Church is a big place and it can be very hard to get plugged into church life if you only attend a weekend service. In a home group, you can connect relationally and make some good friends!
A Place to Belong
Over time, the people in your small group often move from being friends to becoming family. You begin to lean on each other for encouragement, support, and close friendship.
A Place to Grow
God wants to help us grow up spiritually. Life-change and growth happens best in small groups as we study the Bible together, talk about what God is doing in our lives, and encourage each other.
Here's a list of the home groups we offer!

Every two weeks on Tuesday at 7:00pm
The Easy Talk home group is open to everyone of all ages who want a place to fellowship, have fun, pray together, and talk about various religious topics along the way. Our first topic will be Adam Hamilton's book, "Christianity and World Religions: Questions We Ask About Other Faiths." Hamilton urges us as Christians to be bridge builders so that we might grow in our faith, seek peace in our world, and love our neighbors.
Once a month on Sunday afternoon
The Agape home group is open to everyone of all ages. Agape is a term referring to "the highest form of love which originates from God for humankind" which we hope members will feel in a once per month Sunday afternoon meeting. Our goals are to experience fellowship & friendship, to grow spiritually, spend time in prayer, and learn from each other as we pursue Christian study. Our first study will be from UMC Pastor Adam Hamilton's book & video, "Half Truths." It covers five half-truths, or things the Bible doesn't say.
2nd and 4th Sundays of each month from 4:15-5:45pm
The Sabbath home group will take time to gather, disconnect from the busyness of life, and connect with members of our group. People of all ages are welcome to join us as we begin studying Kevin Watson's book, "The Class Meeting." We will study John Wesley's approach to small groups.
Once a month on Tuesdays from 7:00-8:30pm
The Envoy small group meets once a month for fellowship, to learn about our families, pray for each other, and discuss ways we can help others in our church community. In addition to our monthly gatherings, we volunteer with the care membership committee and visit members who are homebound. We have been called to be an extension of the church through our actions outside the traditional church hours. Anyone and all are welcome to join our group!
Mondays with Jesus
Two Monday evenings a month from 7:00-8:30pm
The Monday with Jesus home group invites you to step away from your busy schedules and spend two Monday evenings a month in fellowship, study, and prayer. We will be discussing one of Jesus' more familiar parables, The Prodigal Son. Using Timothy Keller's book, "The Prodigal God," we will discover who the real prodigal is and perhaps also discover which brother we relate to the most. We extend Jesus' love to the community and the world through service projects suggested by group members.
College Home Group
Once a month on Tuesday from 7:00-8:30pm
This new group is open to all college students who would like a place for fellowship off campus! Our discussions and study topics will be designed by the needs of the group's members.
