Domestic Programs

Blacksburg United Methodist Church (BUMC) believes in mission! BUMC has sent missions teams to various locations in recent years, including: the Henderson Settlement in the Kentucky Blue Bird UM Conference, five teams to Mississippi in the two years following Hurricane Katrina, early response work following the 2010 Tennessee floods and rebuilding trips for flooded homes in Tennessee.

In addition, members from Blacksburg UMC have participated in mission trips with other area churches, and we welcome others to participate in our trips. You can click on any mission opportunities that are underlined to read more details about the program. If you would like additional information about any of the other programs, it is suggested you contact the church office (540 552-5424).

JOIN THE BUMC MISSION TEAM to Nashville, July 10-16.  This mission trip is available to those age fourteen and older. We will help families return to their homes after the flooding of 2010. The cost will be approximately $125.00 and the BUMC missions fund will cover part of the cost. No specific skills are required as you can learn as you go. Mission trips offer a great experience! For more information, please contact Jackie Nutter, nutterdj@msn.com, 230-8176.  If this is your first time to consider a mission experience, there are many BUMC members who can share their experiences from trips to Mississippi, Kentucky, Tennessee, and other locations in the past few years.

Our teams are lead by trained team leaders and registered under the auspices of and operate under the guidelines of the United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM).

No previous experience or specific skills are required, unskilled and skilled team members are welcome – “on the job training” is provided. Team members are asked to be flexible and to keep their focus on the people being served. Teams have fun and share Christian fellowship while serving others and Christ.
