Workshop Rotation

Workshop Rotation Model

Elementary school children participate in the workshop rotation model of Sunday School each week at BUMC using the Power Xpress curriculum from Cokesbury. Children in grades K-5 meet each Sunday at 9:45 a.m. in Room 211 for Gathering Time. Children gather with classmates in their grade and with the adult shepherds who are paired with their class throughout the year. After our opening time together, the children then disperse to one of seven workshops each week with their grade level.

What is the workshop rotation model?

The workshop rotation model is a proven approach to Sunday School that invites children to experience Bible stories in depth. It involves an active approach to learning that encourages meaningful engagement with the Bible. The children explore a Bible story by visiting different workshops each week for several weeks. This combination of repetition and variety allows the children to form deep understandings and lasting memories of the story, while honoring the different ways that children learn.
