HOW TO COOK UP A HAPPY THANKSGIVING
By Ms. Leslie's Tuesday Thursday 4 & 5 Year Old Class at B.U.M.P.

Aidan (Brave Golden Retriever) – We are going to spend Thanksgiving with our friends in Ohio. It is going to be a long time in the car. I am going to sing songs all the way, like the Little Pet Shop song. We are taking my dog, Sydney to meet their dog, Emma. My Mom will cook the turkey. My Mom stuffs cans in the turkey and cooks it in the oven really long, 21 hours. I will get to say the blessing. I will say my Dad’s prayer because I know my Dad’s prayer. Dear God, Thank you for the turkey and the trees and the day. In Jesus’ name. Amen. After I am done eating I am going to play with my brother because Mollie is too little to play with.

Daniel (Brave Hungry Piggy) – Some of my Daddy’s friends who are working in school with my Daddy are coming to my house. They sometimes live in other countries, but it is too far to go for Thanksgiving. My Mommy and Daddy came far away to Russia to get me and Mommy makes me happy because she loves me and hugs me. At Thanksgiving we will have potatoes and turkey, turkey, turkey! My Mommy is going to cook the biggest turkey. She puts sour cream on it to make it good and sour cream again. She will cook it in the grill for just 1 minute. My Daddy will say the blessing. Thank you Jesus for this beautiful day and Amen and after that I am thankful. We will eat with all the students and play a little bit with my cars. The people at VA Tech that are coming are big, but not too big to play with me. Then we say my bed prayers and go to bed and we say “Thank you Jesus for this beautiful day. Amen” Then we go to sleep.

Ella (Princess Humpback Whale) – I am going to Great Grandma Hattie’s house a long way but not that far. Great Grandma Hattie will cook the turkey in the stove. She doesn’t stuff it. She cooks it for 1 minute. We play with Mary Frances. She is a grown-up but she will play hide and seek with the kids. I am going to hide in a great place behind a tree. She is not going to be able to find me this time! When the turkey is ready Daddy gets to say the blessing because he is bigger than Mommy. I don’t know what in the world he will say. If it was my turn to say the blessing I would say, “Thank you God for making me and Dadda, I love Dadda and Mama and my brother Kirk and my dog named Ginger and my little brother Griffin and Grandma Hattie. Amen.”

Emmy (Princess Gold Kitty Cat) We are going to Gran and Dolph’s house with my cousins. It’s a long way to travel. There is only 1 game at Gran and Dolph’s house. It is 2 trains that go by themselves when the switch is on and they take turns dumping dirt, just balls of dirt, not real dirt. Mommy helps Gran cook the turkey. We have a grill but it is only for hot dogs, so they will cook the turkey in the oven for 59 minutes and 59 hours. They put the good stuff on the turkey that is in the bottle. Every time Daddy makes pancakes he always puts the good stuff on. We will have lunch and breakfast at Gran’s house and dinner at T’s house. We can walk to T and Granny’s house without a car or anything to ride us there. The path is a teeny bit long so we can just walk on it. We will eat different things at night. One night we had Jell-O but we won’t have Jell-O for Thanksgiving, just treats. If we are good we can pick a candy from the living room. I always get to pet the dog at T’s house. Do you know what I have always wanted? A kitty, and Daddy says when you are 5 you can have a kitty and I want it to be a golden one. We take turns saying the blessing and I don’t know who goes first. If it was littlest to biggest that would be good. Then it would be my turn and I would say, “Dear God, Thank you for the butterflies and trees and cats and everything I love. Amen.”

Ethan (Chief Brave Locust) – I am going to get pumpkins and make another jack-o-lantern for Thanksgiving. We are having Uncle Johny and Aunty Jesse and all my friends. Daddy will bring students from VA Tech. They live far away so they just come to my house. I come from Taiwan but I was born in Georgia. We are having Duck, not turkey, and cookies and cake and muffins.
Harman (Brave Hungry Penguin) – First I am going to play a little and then I’m going to eat and then play a little bit more. My G. G. and PaPa and Bannaw and Hope are coming to Thanksgiving at my house. Hope is Bannaw’s dog. Sometimes Hope is a bad dog. We have a toy dog names Lucky but his batteries just went dead. My Dad is going to be on a trip so my Mommy will cook the turkey. We like to go at lunchtime to watch the big planes land and the helicopter sometimes. My Dad went to Clemson for homecoming and there wasn’t a tornado, but then there was a tornado at Clemson, but nobody got hurt. When I get to go to Clemson I will play the trombone and the trumpet and drums. My Mommy is a Tiger but my Dad is a Hokie. A Hokie is a turkey so that is good for Thanksgiving. I will say the God Bless America singing blessing and then we will eat.

Olivia (Princess Baby Deer) - On Thanksgiving we are going to pray and laugh and eat and watch football and we might play football and pray and have a sleep over with my cousins. My cousins Jordan and Ethan are coming. Jordan is almost a grown man and Ethan is kind of big and kind of little, but not as little as me. My favorite thing in the whole world is Pocahontas. I love princesses! Aunt Lisa and Jessica and Sarah, her little daughters, and Nana and Mommy are all going to cook a big turkey, maybe as big as a monster, I think. Uncle Mark gets to say the blessing I guess because he is in the name of the Lord. Thank you for this food is what I would say if I got to say the blessing.

Raya (Princess Pink Butterfly) – I am going to see Tom and Ta Ta, my Grandparents, for Thanksgiving. TaTa is getting carrots and the dip. Tom cooks good pancakes and waffles so maybe he will cook the turkey. I like presents when we go there at Christmas. I like to play with Ta Ta and Tom. I like to play with TaTa with her Smurf house. I will get to say the singing blessing. Thank you God for making trees and green leaves and green grass and thank you for the wind blowing and the leaves that turn orange and red and yellow. Thank you for the flowers and when a bee stung me in a tree and I got a boo boo and I got a Band-Aid, thank you that I got better. You were a little lamb and I was good and the turkey is in my prayer too and the sheep and the peace sign too. Amen. And then I will sing, “I am the boss of you, sister; I am the boss of you!”

Russell (Chief Boss of all the Campers) -We are going to Grandma Boo’s house for dinner with my aunts and uncles and cousins. My cousins are 5 and a half. We like to play and pretend to build a factory in Boo’s yard, because she doesn’t use some of her yard anymore. We call it a wood factory. We are going to have turkey and green beans and apples with pickles and probably pumpkin pie. Always Boo gets to cook the turkey because she knows how to cook it. She puts it on the stove for maybe 5 hours or 10 hours. She puts a little sprinkle of sugar on the turkey and she puts maybe honey on it to make it sweet. We always say a lot of blessings. We thank God for food and the whole world that we have and people and love. Then we eat. I think maybe if it is not too cold we might be able to go outside and play football.

Ryan (Chief Super Spiderman) We are going to Granny Decker’s to eat and Nana will cook the turkey and mashed potatoes. I don’t like turkey; I like ice cream, chocolate and vanilla. My Mom is not cooking because it is not her house. We get presents for Thanksgiving. Sometimes we go to church and then we go to Granny Decker’s and get presents and once I got a Hokie bus. I keep it in my Dad’s office so he can play with it. A Hokie bird is a turkey and so that is why I don’t like eating turkeys. We can say the Please Pass the Peas blessing because that is Ms. Leslie’s favorite song. Please please please pass the peas. Thank you thank you thank you very much. You’re welcome welcome welcome welcome welcome. Good manners are a very nice touch. Thank you God for the turkey if I don’t have to eat it. Amen.

Zander (Chief Hungry Bear) I am going to my Bubba and Poppa’s house for Thanksgiving. They live way far away. It takes a really long time so we just take a nap going there. We are going to have turkeys and pies. Poppa is going to cook. He doesn’t cook that many times but he will. The turkey is going to be pretty big, 20 pounds. He will put it in the stove for a little bit of time. I will get to say the blessing, the ABC Blessing. “ABCDEFG Thank you God for feeding me. Amen.” I love to play downstairs the best, after we eat. I just love to go to Bubba and Poppa’s all the time.

HOW TO COOK UP A HAPPY THANKSGIVING 2008
By Ms. Leslie's Monday Wednesday Friday 4 & 5 Year Old Class at B.U.M.P.

Brady (Chief Crazy Horse) – We are going to Nana and Pop Pop’s house and Maw Maw and PawPaw’s too. Pop Pop is going to cook the turkey and Thanksgiving pumpkin pie, green beans and potatoes. The turkey is going to be really big, 52 pounds. He will put green beans inside the turkey to make it taste good. Pop Pop will cook it on the stove for 50 rainbow hours and it will turn blue to green to yellow. Then it’s done. I’ll get to say the blessing. I will say the Jesus Loves Me blessing. I think God likes it when I sing to him. Then we eat and get ice cream and go outside to play. Then we will go to PawPaw and MawMaw’s house and do Thanksgiving again. Paw Paw will cook the turkey and I will say the Jesus Loves Me blessing again because God never gets tired of hearing me sing, “Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so, little ones to him belong (that’s me) we are weak but He is strong, Yes, Jesus loves me for the Bible tells me so. Amen.”

Brock (Brave Tiger Shark) – We have people coming to our house for Thanksgiving. Some are friends and some are family. My Grandpa, Djad is coming. My Mommy will cook all the food for our big Thanksgiving. I hope we have enough time. Mom will cook the turkey, a big one, like maybe 100 pounds. I think she will cook it in the grill. My Mom said it would take 50 hours. My Mommy puts bones inside the turkey to make it taste good like fish; because fish are juicy so fish bones will make the turkey juicy. First it’s flat and when we cook it in the oven it gets bigger and bigger and bigger and so yummy. She puts candles on top to make it look like cake and then we can put icing on it so the kids can eat it. She is going to make cookies that look like children and she will make their legs and stuff with cookie dough and put icing on to make them taste yummy. I will get to play with Daddy while Mommy cooks. We will play fumble, it is like football. I will get to say the blessing. Jesus, Jesus I like Jesus. That’s my favorite prayer. I say it every morning. Jesus loves it. Did you know Jesus was a baby and then he grew up to be God and he liked everybody so He made people. Really, that really happened! I saw it on the movie Drummer Boy. God made us because he loves everybody.

Cassidy (Princess Purple Flower) – I am going to do all kinds of things for Thanksgiving. We are having Mama and Papa over to our house. Daddy or Mommy or Papa might cook the turkey. It will be a big one, 3 pounds. We will eat mac and cheese and cupcakes and Thanksgiving turkey. They will cook the turkey 3 hours all the time. My Mommy cooks all the time. She cooks me oatmeal, but I don’t like oatmeal, I like bagels and cheese. They will microwave the turkey and it will wobble around in my tummy. Me and Mommy and Daddy will say the blessing first, because we know how to say blessings. We say, “Bless me, O Lord. These are our gifts. Thanks you for our food. Amen.” Everybody doesn’t have food. I brought food to preschool for the hungry people so you can take it to the Free Faith Grocery Store so Mommies can buy food for no money. They can thank God for the food that I gived when they do Thanksgiving.

Carter (Chief Big Big Monkey) - We are going to have Thanksgiving at my house with Papa, Aunt Becky and my teacher, Ms. Robin and her boys Caleb and Kyle. You can come to my house too, if you want to. Ms. Robin is going to cook the turkey. We are going to have chicken nuggets and chicken crabs too. Chicken crabs are my favoritest food I ever had. Ms. Robin will cook the turkey Thursday and Wednesday and she will put chicken nuggets and crabs in it. My Mom’s cooking is yummy and delicious. We will get to play with Brandon and Caleb and Kyle and Aunt Becky. We will play with my crocodile snake. I love going to preschool and I love playing with my friends and we be nice to our friends. My Mommy gets my sugar and gives me kisses. I am thankful for my Mommy. We will do the same blessing we always do, the God Loves You Blessing. That is all of my answers.

Clara (Princess Yellow Daisy) – My Mommy and Daddy will cook Thanksgiving at my house. We will have turkey and chicken and spaghetti and chicken nuggets and macaroni and chocolate chip cookies and cake. I will play with the guys while Mommy and Daddy cook. I have 3 big brothers. Sometimes they let me play with them. Pop Pop and Grandma Greene might come too. I like it when they tickle me. Me and my brothers get to say the blessing. Me and you, Me and you, me and you and God. I will thank God for making me lunch and my brothers will thank God for playing toys. Daddy and Mommy thank God for eating lunch with me.

Liam (Chief Giant Purple Indian Elephant) – I am going to spend Thanksgiving with Nana and Grandaddy and Aunt Lara and Uncle Rusty and my cousins Noah and Ben and Adam and Lydia. That is a lot of people I’d say! The secret is where the people are coming at Thanksgiving, my house. We are going to have spaghetti and my Daddy will cook a big turkey, actually 30 pounds, in the oven, I suppose. 30 pounds is enough for all the people. He just has to put a little temperature thing in it to switch how hot it has to be. Anyway then I suppose it has to cool down too. Then we will eat it with fruit and corn with handles and M&Ms for dessert and we get to have one dessert and that’s it. I guess Mommy and Daddy will say all sorts of blessings. I pray to God so he will live in my heart. That means that you are in worship. You can worship anywhere, at school if I want to or in the car or at church. I prayed to God in the car and I said to him my prayer and He just came into my heart. I suppose I am thankful for what I usually love to do. I love playing with my ocean animals and my farm animals and my jungle animals. My favorite animal that I am thankful for is an elephant.

Maggi (Princess Poodle Cat) – I am going to my Grammi and Grampi’s new house. Once I even had a sleep over at their house. We will see Charlotte, one of my biggest cousins and Drew and Bryan and Papa Hopie too. Mimi Anne and Grammi are going to cook. I think we will get maybe a turkey this big, fourteen ninety-eight pounds. I think they will put it in the oven on a little bit of like medium because it is a medium big turkey. If it was as big as me it would be enormous and it wouldn’t even fit on the plate. I would like to have chocolate cake with pink and white icing on top. Grammi and Grampi will get to say the blessing because it is their house. I am thankful for having a big, good feast. I may get to play with my cousins in the secret hideout in the back yard. I went in the secret hideout one time with Drew. I think he is about my age. We made the whole bird-bath so covered up with leaves. It was so decorated the birds couldn’t even get wet. If they wanted to get wet they could go under the leaves and be all shady. We might watch a show or if I remind Mommy to bring our bikes we might ride bikes.

Sarah ( Princess Rainbow Rose) – We are all going to the farm in Luray where my Pops grew up. They have horses and I think we might get to ride them. My cousins, Julia and Joseph, are coming too. I like to play with them. We are going to have turkey. Aunt Lois is going to cook the turkey, a big one, like 30 pounds maybe. She might put some ham in the turkey for stuffing. She will cook it in the oven for 20 minutes. Maybe Aunt Lois and my Mom will cook brownies and carrots and bananas. Maybe I will get to say the blessing. We could say the God Bless America Blessing like we do at preschool with the sign language moves. I will teach it to my Mom and Dad when we do it at preschool for our Family Feast. I am thankful for my parents because they hug me at night time. I am thankful for my big sister and my baby brother because they are nice to me sometimes. Sometimes when there are too may people in the bed they kick me but I still do love them anyway.

Shahd (Princess Big Sunflower) – I am thankful for my friends, Spencer and Brock and Taylor and Sarah. I love princesses and big flowers. We are from Egypt. We celebrate Ramadan and next month we celebrate Sacrifice. We buy a sheep and make it into 3 parts and give one part to the poor and give one part to our friends and give one part to us, like Abraham. We cook the meat and make fata with bread and rice over tomato soup. This is Egyptian food. This holiday is 4 days. The other days we go to the playground to play and buy new clothes and toys.

Spencer ( Brave Soaring Bat) - Usually I go to my Mimi and Papa’s house but this year it’s going to be a little bit different because my baby brother is coming right after Thanksgiving. We are going to name my baby brother Brooks. Since it is going to be just the three of us for one more day, we will have a quiet Thanksgiving and do fun stuff like play games. I am having mashed potaoes and gravy. I love gravy on my mashed potatoes, it’s good. I usually get to say the blessing before we eat. I will make one up. “Dear God, Thank you God for making our world and you know all about us. We love you and we know that you love us too. I want to thank you for helping my Mommy make my baby brother. Amen.”

Tate (Chief Black Bear) – I am going to my other Nanny’s house to spend Thanksgiving. First we are going to Washington D.C. to the Museum of History and the Statue of Lincoln and the famous building where you can see all the army stuff. Nanny will cook the turkey so Mom can take a break from cooking. I love turkeys and we will have chicken nuggets and homemade mac and cheese like the biggest happy meal ever. Mommy and Daddy and MaLou and Nanny and Papa will say the blessing. Now I lay me down to sleep I pray the Lord my soul to keep, May Angels watch me through the night and wake me with the morning light. Amen. I will get to play with my cousins. We will play Play station with 3 remotes. We will play outside too and ride Papa’s tractor.

Taylor (Princess Pink Flamingo) – We are all going to my uncle Paw Paw’s house. He lives in Blacksburg with my Aunt Nana and Aunt Debbie and Bo Bo the doggie, a Chihuahua mix. He is just like a Chihuahua if you take his collar off. Fluffy, the cat, is just loose. She is on the run but she never runs away. Sugar, the other cat is loose too. Paw Paw will help Mommy cook the huge turkey, like a hundred million thousand pounds. They will cook it in the grill. They put bricks in there so you can’t eat the middle part because it is not tasty. You can only eat the soft part. They will cook it a million thousand hundred minutes because it takes a while. Bo Bo will not get turkey. Bo Bo will eat dog food. You should come to their house to smell his stinky dog food. His breath is soooo stinky. I get to say the blessing. “God bless the macaroni and the macaroni soup.” and then I say the sleepy blessing after dinner. “Thank you God for watching me sleep and thank you God for being my friend and thank you God for loving my heart. Amen.”

Wyatt (Brave Rudolf Snow Deer) – I am going far, far away to Pennsylvania. I watch movies all the way there. I like Sleeping Beauty. There is a witch and a dragon and the fairies come. I’m going to stay at my Grandma Angie and Grandpa Jack’s house and Gram and Pap’s house too. Janell has a son who is 2 or 5 but I forgot his name. I think he is 0 because he is a baby. I am going to eat turkey. We are going to get the hugest turkey ever, higher than the wall. We will eat it all up on sticks. Aunt Sue Ellen will cook it in the stove and on the grill and in the microwave for 7 minutes. Nicky will say the blessing because she gets to. She will say God Sleep America. It’s like God Bless America that we sing at preschool, but God Sleep America is like a lullaby for God, so he can get some sleep. He can sleep for as long as we sing and then he has to wake up when we say Amen. Then he can play for a while and then he has to listen to all the other blessings.

HOW TO COOK A THANKSGIVING TURKEY 2008
By Ms. Moench’s 4 & 5 Year Old Class at B.U.M.P.

Abbey…We are going to Granddad and MaMa’s house. They live 4 hours away. MaMa will cook the turkey in the oven for 10 hours. Granddad will cut the turkey. We will eat hummus and pitas too. Mommy, Daddy, Zack and me will watch football on TV. Go white team! - Kentucky. We will sleep in the basement for 3 days at MaMa’s.

Charlie…We are going to have 2 Thanksgivings. One will be in Salem and one at the Smudge. We will eat the turkey that Mama cooks in the electric oven for 45 – 46 minutes. One of my friends will say the blessing. I think we will go on a hike after we eat.

Chase…For Thanksgiving it will only be Mom, Dad and me. We will get our turkey at Kroger. Mom will buy it for like $18. My Dad will cook it, I think, on the grill for 18 hours. When it’s cooked I will cut it up and we will eat corn, mac-n-cheese and milk to drink. I will say the blessing. I always do! I say a blessing Ms. Leslie always says and I add stuff to it.

Darius…We are going to Macado’s to eat turkey. It will cost $2.00. I will pay the bill. I have enough money to pay. My sister will say the blessing, the “ABC” one. After we get home we will watch some fireworks and then go to bed.

Ella…I think we are going to eat at our house for Thanksgiving. My Grandparents are coming. They sleep in our guest room. My Dad will cook the turkey that we bought at Kroger’s for $20.00. My Dad will cook it like 15 minutes on the grill. Before we eat I will say the blessing, the Tick Tock one. I don’t know what my Mom is going to cook with the turkey. After we will play in the castle outside.

Emily…My Mom will cook our turkey in the microwave for 5 seconds. My Grandma and Grandpa and cousin, Courtney will come over to eat. My Daddy’s going to shoot the turkey but I said, “No, we have to share it Dad.” I will get some flowers to give to everybody at dinner time.

Ford…We are going to my Grandparents for Thanksgiving. They live in Marion, VA. My Mom will help my Granddad cook the BIG turkey in the oven for about 7 hours. Grandpa will say the blessing. I might ride my 4 wheeler that I am taking with me. Its battery powered. My Grandpa has a “real” 4 wheeler!

Helena…My Mom will cook the turkey. I like turkey! Ten friends are coming to my house. I will say the blessing. “God made the fish…” My Daddy and I will watch some football!

Kennedy…I think we are staying at home in Blacksburg for Thanksgiving. My Mom and I will buy a turkey at Kroger for $7. My Dad will cook the turkey in the oven for about 6 hours. I usually say the blessing at night time, so I will say – The Lord’s been good to me. Actually I will sing it. Now we will eat the turkey, but I don’t really eat turkey, so I will have chicken nuggets and French fries. I am not sure if my Grandparents are coming or not.

Jackson…We are going to my Grandma’s for Thanksgiving. She lives far away. My Dad and my Grandpa will cook the turkey. It will be about 10 pounds big and they will cook it on the grill for 3 hours. We will eat mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, green beans, and donuts. Before we eat, I will say the blessing; “God is Great”. Then I will watch some cartoons and play with my Mom and Dad.

Josh…We are going to my Nan’s house for Thanksgiving. My Granddad died a long time ago and he was my Nan’s husband. We will eat turkey that my Nana cooks in the oven for 10 hours that she bought at the Kroger near her house. It will be my cousins, Aunt Judy, and Uncle Derrick there. Everybody will hold hands and say the blessing all together.

Katya…I am going to Pennsylvania to see my cousins, Sean and Gary. They have a pool at their house, no the pool is at the hotel. So Sean will cook our turkey on the grill for 10 hours. I will say the “ABCDEFG Thank-you” Blessing. My cousins and I will play outside and swim at the hotel. I’m really going to miss you, Mrs. Moench!

Luke…My Grandma’s coming to my house for Thanksgiving Day. My Mama will cook our turkey because my Dad will be at work. She will cook it in the oven for 9 hours at 500 degrees. We will have a BIG supper with turkey, corn, red Jell-O and milk to drink. My Mom will say the blessing before we eat. After supper I will play with Sam. He’s 8 years old now!

Mindolay…My Mommy will cook the turkey in the oven for 1 hour. We will eat chicken, stuffing, chips, mashed potatoes and chocolate pie. My brother’s chocolate pie is already made. I will say the “ABCDEFG” blessing. I think my Grandma and Grandpa and cousin’s will come to my house. I have a lot of cousins!

Sam…It will just be my family for Thanksgiving. My Dad will buy our turkey at Target for $14.02. My Mom will cook it in the oven for 4 hours. My Dad will say the blessing about God made the turtles. After we eat John and I will go outside and play soccer.

Zachary…I am staying at my house for Thanksgiving and eating all kinds of food. Mac-n-cheese and corn. After I am done eating I will play with my Mom. We will play in the play room with all my little people. For dessert we will eat pumpkin pie!
