Sunday School Schedule

Adult Sunday School

Blacksburg United Methodist Church offers a variety of opportunities for adults to engage in Christian Education on Sunday mornings. All classes meet from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. We invite you to visit our classes and find one that fits you.

College Class meets at the Wesley Foundation at 209 W. Roanoke Street. The class studies the Bible and explores a wide range of life topics from a biblical perspective. Because the college years are a time of transition, change, and growth, the class tries to incorporate real-life examples and discussion to bring the material to the students on a personal level. This class is led by Tim Owen (mitnewo@vt.edu).

Family Matters Class meets in Room 107 of the Education Building. This is a discussion-oriented class which focuses on parenting, marriage, and personal spiritual growth from a Biblical perspective. We use various Bible study guides to aid us in applying the Word of God in our daily lives and in raising our children. The class is mainly comprised of parents with children ranging from infants to college age; however, all are welcome. Tracy and Joey Altizer lead the group (953-3366, ugadawgfan87@ yahoo.com).

Families with Young Children meets in Room 104 of the Education Building. Expectant parents and parents of infants, toddlers and young children are invited to be members. Newborns are welcome to join mom and/or dad in class. This spring the class is discussing Serious Answers to Hard Questions. Following this study, topics concerning marriage and parenting will be used. Faye Crist, Joe and Marjorie Marcy lead this class (951-3901, mafiamom@verizon.net).
Gunnar Teilmann Class meets in the Central Conference Room. Named for a former assistant pastor of BUMC who also served as a Methodist missionary in Singapore, the Gunnar Teilmann class studies God’s Word using the Holy Bible as its primary text. George Miller is the contact person (552-2712, vfrmiller@hotmail.com).

Koinonia Class meets in Room 202 of the Education Building. The class invites people of all ages and stages to join in a study of Christian doctrines using Christian Believer. This in-depth, discussion-oriented program includes a study manual, Scripture references, and writings of various theologians and others over the centuries. For more information, please contact Cindy Wood (953-2508, piglady@vt.edu).

Logos Class meets at 203 E. Roanoke Street. Couples and singles of all ages comprise this class. The class decides which Old Testament or New Testament book to study in depth. Contact Hap Bonham (552-0284, Bonham@vt.edu) for more information.

Murrill Bible Class meets in the Dan Kite Chapel at the entrance to the Whisner building. This class is comprised primarily of senior adults who use Cokebury's Adult Bible Study as a springboard for deep exploration of the times and personalities of the Greatest Book Ever Written. Teaching is shared by Carter Elliott and Richard Mitchell. For more information, please contact Carter Elliott (382-1874, carter32@usit.net,).

New Member Class meets periodically in Room 116 with Rev. Tuck and Rev. Yoo. This class is for those who have recently joined or are considering membership in our church. It will cover basic United Methodist beliefs, church history, and church structure. Contact Rev. Sung Yoo (552-5424 ext. 1/2, syoo@blacksburgumc.org) for more information.

Pairs and Spares Class meets at 201 Church Street. Couples and singles of all ages are invited to join in discussion of issues raised in the Social Principles of The United Methodist Church. Topics usually focus on witnessing our Christian faith to the world through social action and mission projects. This spring the class will discuss a variety of topics including the books Rediscovering Values and God According to God. The class actively supports local and international mission projects. Class facilitators are Curt and Karen Finch (552-8179, ckfinch412@ aol.com) and Jan Notter (951-7515, jmcnott@yahoo.com).

Pathways Sunday School Class is part of the Single Adult Ministry at BUMC and meets in Room 113 of the Education Building. This class strives to be very open and welcoming to adults who may be going through a difficult life transition such as separation, divorce, or the loss of a loved one, but is open and welcoming to all. In our ongoing effort to foster spiritual renewal, growth, and fellowship, we are currently studying The Purpose Driven Life. Mission activities and social get-togethers are also enjoyed by the group. Class leaders are Julie Jenkins (552-9146) and Dave Violette (392-1660).
