Ushers
Jesus said, “I’ve come not to be served but to serve.” Mark 10:45. Being an usher at Blacksburg United Methodist Church (BUMC) is one way you can serve. As we serve we grow in Christ. It’s that simple.
AT BUMC we have regular usher teams but also give the opportunity for our youth and the students at Wesley Foundation to serve the church. The qualification are very simple:
- Hospitable nature
- Ability to initiate conversation
- Adept at being adaptable
- Servant heart
Each usher team will have a Captain and Co-captain assigned. Teams are assigned to both traditional services (8:45 am and 11:00 am) as well as the nontraditional worship in the Whisner Building at 11:00 am. Duties may include: handing out bulletins, seating worshipers, assisting handicapped individuals, collecting the offering, directing communion, getting an attendance count, collecting attendance sheets from the pews, and straightening the sanctuary between (and after) services.
If you are interested in serving, see any usher for information or contact Mike Eggleston at mike@mikeeggleston.com.
